For many companies, a presence on social media platforms is now a natural part of their public image. The largest social network Facebook naturally plays an important role in this. In order to position yourself successfully and professionally as a company on Facebook, it is important to pay attention to the visual design of your own Facebook presence. Company profiles can be enhanced with image content such as profile pictures, cover pictures and product images. This content can generate more user interaction and therefore increase reach. For a successful Facebook presence, it is therefore essential to achieve the best possible post quality, so choose not only meaningful image motifs, but also the optimal image sizes on Facebook. Don’t forget to own the rights to the published images, as they can be seen by everyone. You should also note from the current Facebook guidelines that you should not use images with violence or nudity.
The profile picture
The profile picture represents your company on Facebook. Before you create the profile picture, you should note that the profile picture of your presence is displayed in a circle in advertisements and posts. It should therefore be easily recognizable in a small circular image. The profile picture of your Facebook presence is displayed on computers with a dimension of 170 x 170 pixels, on smartphones with 128 x 128 pixels and on most cell phones with 36 x 36 pixels. We recommend that you create the profile picture in 1200 x 1200 pixels, as Facebook profile pictures are displayed larger when clicked. You may also be able to improve the quality of profile pictures (containing logos or text) with a PNG file.
The cover picture
The cover image functions in a similar way to the profile picture and should attract the attention of potential customers to the content of your page and be able to represent the company. Choose a meaningful image to achieve a high recognition factor. Pay attention to what interests and appeals to your target group. The cover image is displayed in the desktop view on your Facebook page with a dimension of 820 x 312 pixels. Please note that the image is cropped on the left and right in the mobile view. The cover image is displayed on the mobile view with a dimension of 640 x 360 pixels. If you optimize the cover image for the mobile view, you should note that your image will be cropped at the top and bottom in the desktop view, and it will also be somewhat blurred there. You may also be able to improve the quality of the cover image by using a PNG file with a maximum size of 1 MB. If the size of the PNG file exceeds 1 MB, Facebook will automatically compress the file at the expense of the image quality.
Shared image
The recommended size for shared images is 1200 x 630 pixels. The displayed width of the images is 500 pixels with a variable height. The maximum aspect ratio is 1 to 1.5.
Shared link
The recommended size for shared links is 1200 x 627 pixels. The post is displayed in a size of 500 x 261 pixels. Please note that Facebook automatically generates the image section for other formats. If the image is of insufficient quality, the link can also be shared without the image.
Shared video
The recommended width for split videos is 1200 pixels with a variable height of up to approx. 677 pixels. We recommend the video formats MP4 or MOV. The aspect ratio of the videos should be 16:9, 1:1. The video sizes are displayed in 500 x 282 pixels (16:9) or 500 x 500 pixels (1:1). Please note that videos must not exceed a length of 120 minutes and a size of 4 GB.
Shared stories
For Stories, you should ensure that you leave approximately 14% (250 pixels) of space at the top and bottom of the video for text and logos. This will prevent these important elements from being covered by the profile icon or a call to action button. This means that if your image is 1080 x 1920 pixels, you should ensure that important elements appear in the title protection area of 1080 x 1420 pixels.
The event picture
The event image on your Facebook page should be created with a dimension of 1920 x 1080 pixels (aspect ratio 16:9). As with the profile picture, you may be able to improve the quality of the event picture by using a PNG file.
